Sky Blue London Topaz, once rare, is now created using modern processes like irradiation. As well as being the birthstone for those born in December, Sky Blue Topaz is the gem of choice to celebrate the 4th wedding anniversary.

The Sapphire represents the blue variety of Corundum and owes its color to the presence of iron and titanium in its chemical formula. While Sapphire derives from Latin “sapphirus”, probably used to indicate another gemstone, almost certainly the current Lapis Lazuli.

The name is said to come from the Latin word “Lapis” meaning stone and the Persian word “Lazhward”, meaning blue. The Assyrians used it as a cure for melancholy, while another wide spread ancient belief was that it protected the wearer from evil. In antiquity, Buddhists kept Lapis with them as they gave them peace of mind.
